My mother ( type2) has a condition called Graves disease and often complains that socks with elastic in are too tight around her ankles. From your post , Could the swelling around her ankles be due to her diabetes? She has a great chiropodist who looks after her on a regular basis but I was thinking that her issues with her swollen ankles may be as a result of her diabetes and not "graves " disease as we once thought.
