Grave's disease is a disorder of the thyroid gland. Within Grave's disease, there exists a condition called Grave's dermopathy where the tops of the feet swell. Other than that, I am not aware of feet swelling being an issue. The concern with diabetes (specifically hyperglycemia) is that over time, the small vessels in the legs become damaged and circulation decreases. That could be a problem for your mother. The other question would be if she has any cardiac problems in addition to the diabetes. I would make sure she has socks of natural fibers that have no or little elastic in the tops to help decrease the swelling and also have her elevate her feet as much as she can shen she's seated. I hope that helps!
